Local Sports Thursday February 2, 2017

This is Bulldog local sports for Wednesday.....I'm Kevin Day.  

Letcher County Central Cougar Senior Avery Stamper.  He signed yesterday to play football for the UPike Bears. 
LCC Lady Cougar Senior Shelby Hall also signed yesterday to play basketball for KY Christian University. 

Congratulations to Avery and Shelby!

In middle school volleyball last night,  Letcher beat Cowan in the A, B and C Team games.

In boys high school basketball last night across the mountains:

It was Betsy Layne getting by Prestonsburg 61-57.
Pike County Central beat Belfry 63-52.
and Harlan Ind. got by Jenkins 64-48.
The Jenkins boys will next play Rose Hill at home on Friday and Owsley County at home on Saturday. 

The Letcher County Central Cougars will play at June Buchanan tonight in a district game.  It's a varsity game only with tipoff at 6pm.  The Cougars will then play at Perry County Central Saturday. 

Other boys games tonight will include:

Magoffin County at Johnson Central
Oneida Baptist at Pineville
and Leslie County at Williamsburg. 

In girls high school basketball across the mountains last night:

East Ridge beat Grundy VA 60-48
Morgan County over Wolfe County 46-42
Nicholas County knocked off Powell County 60-45
Paintsville over Russell 57-44
and the Piarist School beat Cordia 59-37

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will next play Hazard at home tonight and it will be senior night for the LCC girls.  LCC will honor seniors Paige Caudill, Shelby Hall, Destiny Hall, Cameron Kincer and Kamy Adams. The Lady Cougars will then play at Knott County Central in a district game on Saturday afternoon. 

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will play at Phelps tonight,  play a district doubleheader at Cordia on Friday and then take on Wolfe County on the road Saturday.

Oneida Baptist is at Buckhorn
Pineville at Knox Centeral
Barbourville plays at Lynn Camp
Lawrence County at Pikeville
and Knott County Central is at Owsley County

The #8 KY Wildcats will next visit #24 Florida on Saturday night.  KY is 18-4 overall and 8-1 in the SEC.  Florida is 16-5 overall and 6-2 in the SEC.  Game time for the Cats and Gators from Gainsville is at 8pm Saturday night with pre-game at 6:30 here on the Bulldog.
