The high school basketball postseason began last night across KY and here in the mountains as district tournament action got underway.

There were 2 games in the 53rd District Tournament last night at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex in Hindman. 

In girls action #4 seed June Buchanan beat #5 seed Cordia 52-19.  JBS will advance to play #1 seed the Knott County Central girls at 6pm Wednesday.

In boys action, #5 seed, the Jenkins Cavaliers beat the #4 seed June Buchanan 73 to 68.  Jenkins boys will face #1 seed Knott County central Wednesday night at 8pm. 

Tonight in the 53rd district tournmanent both Letcher County Central boys and girls will be playing.   At 6pm, The #2 seed LCC Lady Cougars will take on Jenkins followed by the #3 seed LCC Cougar boys take on #2 seed Cordia.  We'll bring you both LCC games tonight in the district tournament with pre-game starting at 5:30 here on the Bulldog and streaming live around the world.  

The 53rd district tournament championship games will be Friday with girls at 6pm followed by boys around 8pm.  All games are being played at Knott Central HS in Hindman. 

The other basketball district tournaments also began last night or will begin this evening across the state. 

In the 14th Region district games last night
In the 54th girls
Leslie County beat Hazard 78-64
and Perry County Central over Buckhorn 75-34
In the 55th girls Breathitt County 64 Riverside 26
and Wolfe County got by Jackson City 43-41
In the 56th girls, it was Owsley County over Lee COunty 71-68 in overtime.

No boys games were played involving 14th Region teams last night.

Tonight in 14th region boys district tournament play besides Cordia and LCC in the 53rd, Leslie County will play Perry County Central in the 54th, Jackson City takes on Wolfe County and Breathitt County is at Riverside in the 55th, In the 56th Powell County faces Lee County and Estill County will host Owsley County. 

Good luck to all teams and don't forget next week is the 14th Region Tournaments being held at Hazard's Memorial Gym for the girls and at the Woods Colisueum in Jackson for the boys. 

The UK Wildcats are 22-5 overall and 12-2 in the SEC and they will visit Missouri tonight for a 9pm tipoff.  Missouri is 7 and 19 overall and 2-12 in the SEC.  We'll join the UK game against Missouri tonight after our coverage of Letcher County Central boys and girls in the district tournament. 

The Coach Cal Show, Coach Matthew Mitchell Show and BIg Blue Weekly will be broadcast on Wednesday this week starting at 6pm.
