Jackson, KY (April 1, 2024) – On Saturday, March 30, 2024, at approximately 11:41 A.M, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, received a 911 call in reference to a single vehicle accident that occurred on KY-397 located in the Jackson community of Breathitt County.
Troopers, along with medical personnel responded to the scene. Initial investigation indicates that Makayla Marshall, 19, of Florence, was operating an ATV on private property when the vehicle lost control causing the passenger, a 5-year-old juvenile to be ejected from the vehicle. The juvenile was pronounced deceased on scene by the Breathitt County Coroner’s Office.
Marshall was transported to Kentucky River Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Helmets were in use at the time of the collision. This incident remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Trooper Jarrett Fields.
