Attorneys for former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines have asked a judge to toss out his murder indictment.
Stines was indicted by a grand jury for Murder of a Public Official in November for allegedly shooting and killing Letcher County Judge Kevin Mullins in his chambers in September.
WYMT reports on Wednesday his attorneys argued a motion to dismiss alleging the grand jury was not given information by the Commonwealth’s attorneys about a lawsuit in which Stines was involved and there was an intentional failure to record one of the grand jury sessions, which is required but law.
Stines has been held no on bond since his arrest and his attorneys have also filed a
motion for a bond hearing.
There is no indication yet on when the judge could rule on the motions.
