Tourism organization Backroads of Appalachia has been awarded a $3.8 million grant
from the Appalachian Regional Commission.
The ARISE Grant, which stands for Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies, will go to support Backroads of Appalachia’s adventure tourism corridor which they say will connect rural towns across Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Officials tell WYMT their goal is to promote Appalachia as a motorsports and outdoor recreation destination.
The money will go toward a training facility for overland, off-road motocross, and rally cars, support for RV parking, and the water and wastewater infrastructure to make it all happen.
