Bridge Replacement Project Underway on KY 805 in Letcher County

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (June 23, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 advises the public of a full closure on KY 805 at mile point 4.20 in Letcher County for a bridge replacement project currently underway. The project, initially started with preliminary work earlier this month, has since undergone changes in its traffic control plan due to safety concerns with the original plan to use the existing bridge during construction for traffic flow. As a result, the bridge was demolished and a detour was implemented.

Closure Details:

  • Location: KY 805 at MP 4.20
  • Closure Start Date: Thursday, June 19
  • Anticipated Reopening: On or before Saturday, August 10, before the start of the new school year

Detour Information:

  • Southbound traffic: Take US 23 South → US 119 South → back to KY 805
  • Northbound traffic: Follow signs to US 119 North → US 23 → back to KY 805

Central Bridge Company is the contractor for this important infrastructure project, which will result in a safer, more reliable crossing for KY 805 once complete.

Motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time. The Cabinet appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve safety and reliability across our highway system.
