Plans are moving forward to install a solar panel site at an abandoned strip mine
straddling Knott, Perry, Breathitt, and Floyd Counties.
The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky says Starfire Solar from the company called Bright Night will be built in 2026 on the site of the former Starfire mine.
The Appalachian News Express reports the project is pending approval by a board of the Public Service Commission.
