Someone has taken an historical monument honoring a Letcher County settler, and it’s
not the first time.
Archelous Craft was a Revolutionary War veteran and one of the original settlers of Letcher County.
The Mountain Eagle reports he was first honored with a bronze historical marker near Crafts Colly three years ago but sometime after the 2022 flood, it was removed.
A new one was recently installed but now it too has disappeared.
An official with the Kentucky Department of Transportation tells the paper if it doesn’t turn up soon they will replace it again.
Archelous Craft reportedly lived to the age of 103 on the plantation originally known as Craft’s Colony.
