Floyd County Woman Accused of Killing Father Released from Jail

A Floyd County woman accused of killing her father in June is out of jail after a grand
jury failed to indict her within 60 days.

Mountain Top News reports Summer Adkins of Prestonsburg has been released from home incarceration and all bond conditions in connection with the shooting death of Jimmy Harvey.

At her preliminary hearing, Adkins allegedly admitted she’d killed him because he had allegedly sexually abused her as a child and she learned he was allegedly doing it to another child.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney says while Adkins had to be released due to state law, they are still investigating and a grand jury could still bring charges.

At the time of Harvey’s death, some family members maintained the sexual abuse allegations were untrue.
