In a reversal of course, Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle has announced he is not retiring
after all.
Late last week Engle announced he would be stepping down as of January 1.
But on Wednesday Engle issued a statement rescinding his retirement.
He says he will serve out his full term through 2026 but will not be running for re-election.
The Hazard Herald reports Engle says he changed his mind because his recommended successor was not going to be given the job, and he wants what is best for Perry County.
