Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle is planning to run for Perry County Judge-Executive in 2026.
In a notice on his social media Tuesday, Engle says while he recently switched to being an Independent voter he will run on the Republican ticket.
He says he never had any intention of running and was planning to leave public service after his second term as Sheriff.
Just last week he announced he was resigning in January but took it back the next day when he learned he would not be able to choose his successor.
