Floyd County Schools Says Misunderstanding Led to Bus Driver Sick Out

An apparent misunderstanding is said to be what led to a Floyd County Schools bus driver shortage Tuesday after more than half the drivers called in sick over a contract negotiation issue.

School officials told WYMT the district has been looking for ways to save money and were focusing on changes to how they pay drivers for extracurricular activities.

They say they had come to an agreement last month with the drivers but apparently there was what they call “misinformation” spread among drivers that their regular pay and hours were about to be cut.

The district says despite missing 32 drivers the schools still hit more than 90% attendance for Tuesday.
