Guilty Plea from Letcher County Man in Sexual Abuse Case

One of the oldest known open cases at the Letcher County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s
office is closed.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Matt Butler said Thursday that Clarence Gross of Jenkins pleaded guilty to every charge in his indictment and agreed to serve 8 years in prison.

Gross was indicted in July 2024 on five counts of sexual abuse involving a victim under 12 and at that that point he also had a 2021 indictment including a child under 10.

His case had been delayed for several reasons.

Butler says while a conviction might have meant a couple more years in prison, he felt a plea was appropriate to save a child from having to testify about what happened to her.
