KSP Investigating Deadly Shooting in Cumberland

Cumberland, KY — Kentucky State Police Post 10 is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Harlan County.

Troopers were called to a residence on Coldiron Branch Road at approximately 4:10 a.m. When they arrived, they found Brian Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. Johnson was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Following the initial investigation, 45-year-old James Sizemore of Cumberland was identified as the suspect. Sizemore was arrested and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center, facing a charge of Murder.

Authorities have not released any details at this time on what may have led to the shooting.

The Cumberland Police Department, Evarts Police Department, Harlan County Sheriff’s Department, and AMR Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
