Architects could be interviewed soon as the City of Whitesburg, Letcher County and EKY Heritage Foundation move toward the second phase of renovations of the Daniel Boone Hotel.
The Mountain Eagle reports the City and County recently signed a memorandum of agreement to work on the project which they call the cornerstone of a long-term multimillion dollar plan to boost county tourism.
Phase one was rebuilding the roof and floors after the roof collapsed several years ago.
Next up is to replace the windows and then develop a space for retail, a restaurant, and a bar.
Eventually it will be a hotel again with also some convention and meeting spaces.
