There have been five reported cases of whooping cough in Floyd County this year.
The Floyd County Health Department issued a notice Monday about a recent confirmed
case of pertussis which is a highly-contagious respiratory illness that can be dangerous for infants, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.
Health Department Director Martha Ellis says they are investigating the newest cases and
working to reduce spread of the illness.
She recommends getting vaccinated for it.
