Homeless Man Charged with Stealing Christmas Gifts from Vehicle in Whitesburg

Whitesburg Police say a man who stole some Christmas gifts from someone’s pickup last week did it to get money for food.

Assistant Police Chief Justin Hunsucker tells the Mountain Eagle the 20-year-old homeless man from Indiana was arrested for criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, and theft after the owner of the truck, which was parked on Main Street, saw someone breaking into it and then running away into the basement of a locked building.

Police say once in that building they found the guy with several packages.

He was processed at the jail but then released with a January court date.
