The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reminding drivers that “rockfall season” has arrived across the region.
District 12 officials say fluctuating temperatures and repeated freezing and thawing this time of year can loosen rocks along hillsides, increasing the risk of rockslides onto roadways.
Crews were working today in Floyd County, breaking up and clearing fallen rock along U.S. 23 near Bull Creek to keep the highway safe for motorists.
Transportation officials are urging drivers to use caution in areas prone to rockslides and to be alert for active work zones throughout the district.
If you see rocks or debris on the roadway, you’re asked to report it to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet so crews can respond as quickly as possible.
Officials say staying alert and reporting hazards can help keep everyone safe during the late winter and early spring months.
