The 2026 high school baseball and softball season begins this week.
The Letcher County Central Cougars baseball team under first year coach Chris Amburgey, will open the season Tuesday evening, weather permitting, at home against Shelby Valley.
Jenkins baseball and coach Devin Newsome will open their season this Thursday at Owsley County.
Coach Jay Perkins and the back to back defending 14th Region softball champions, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will open the new season at home this Thursday against Eastside VA.
The Lady Cougars will face defending 15th Region champion Lawrence County on Friday.
The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers with coach Joe Banks will begin their season at Thomas Walker VA on Tuesday, weather permitting.
