Both the boys 53rd District baseball Tournament and the girls 53rd District softball Tournament got underway last night.
In the boys 53rd district semifinals at Knott County Central, Knott Central took care of Cordia 14-0 and Letcher County Central won over Jenkins 15-0 in 4 innings.
Knott County Central will now meet Letcher County Central for the boys 53rd district baseball championship and that game will be tonight, Tuesday, at 5:30pm in Hindman.
The baseball championship game was first scheduled for Wednesday night but moved to tonight due to anticipated rain on Wednesday.
One of the girls 53rd district semifinals was played at Letcher County Central last night and what a game it was.
The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers got the walk off win the bottom of the 7th as they beat Knott County Central 4-3 and advance to the district championship game and the 14th region tournament for the first time since 2016.
Haylee Thacker had the game-winning RBI walk-off hit in the bottom of the 7th and went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Cavaliers.
In the other semifinal game Cordia forfeited their game to Letcher County Central.
So the LCC Lady Cougars will meet Jenkins for the girls 53rd district softball championship tonight, Tuesday, at 8:00pm at Letcher County Central.
The 14th Region Tournaments will begin Monday with softball being held at Breathitt County and baseball at Powell County.
