Man Convicted on Attempted Murder of Norton Police Chief Sentenced to Life in Prison

It’s life in prison for the man convicted of attempting to murder Norton Police Chief James Lane. On Tuesday a Wise County Circuit Court Judge sentenced James Buckland to two life terms for the May 2021 shooting that left Lane with several life-long injuries. In October a Wise County jury found Buckland guilty of attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, using a gun to attempt to murder a police officer and more. Buckland is being held at the Duffield Regional Jail until his prison assignment.
