Local Veterinarians Warn of New Cases of Respiratory Illness in Dogs

Local veterinarians are asking you to keep a close eye on your dogs with an uptick in a certain respiratory illness. Dr. William Hagans with Town & Country Animal Clinic in Hazard tells WYMT it presents like kennel cough, but dogs get sicker and faster. He says it can lead to pneumonia, severe illness and hospitalization and can spread quickly between dogs, even after just a short visit. Hagans said you can protect your dog by staying up to date with vaccinations for known illnesses like kennel cough and parainfluenza so that any new sickness doesn’t get compounded with any others.
