Governor Andy Beshear’s visit to Letcher County this week was not just to announce more than $6 million in grants to upgrade the water systems in the county and its cities; it was also to highlight progress being made on higher-ground communities being developed for residents forced out of flood zones in 2022. The Mountain Eagle reports the Cottages at Thompson Branch already has water, sewer, and high speed Internet infrastructure in place. It will have ten homes – two manufactured homes that will be modified by HOMES Inc. of Whitesburg to be more permanent, and the rest built, also by HOMES Inc., with traditional carpentry. It’s funded by a mix of FEMA, state grants, and donations
