A local landmark has achieved national significance: Hazard’s Memorial Gym has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The designation was made possible after the combined efforts of some City of Hazard officials and members of the Hazard Independent School Board to put together an application that was unanimously passed by the Kentucky Heritage Council. The City of Hazard’s grant writer tells WYMT in addition to the honor, the designation will also help the city and school district pay for some renovations to the Gym because it will now be eligible for tax credits.
