Former North Laurel Jaguar and former Kentucky Wildcat Reed Sheppard was selected No. 3 overall by the Houston Rockets in last night’s opening round of the NBA Draft at the Barclays Center.
According to WYMT, Sheppard is the first Eastern Kentucky native to be drafted into the NBA since Todd May was selected in 1987 by the San Antonio Spurs in the fourth round.
Todd May was a star at Virgie High School in Pike County.
May was was named the 1982 Kentucky Mr. Basketball.
Also former Wildcat Rob Dillingham was picked No. 8 overall to the San Antonio Spurs.
ESPN then announced that Dillingham was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a 2031 unprotected first and a protected 2030 pick swap.
Former Wildcats Justin Edwards and Antonio Reeves could be taken in Round 2 of the NBA Draft tonight.
The overall #1 draft pick was Zaccharie Risacher from France going to the Atlanta Hawks.
