HAZARD, Ky, (Date): LKLP Community Action Council, Inc. is pleased to announce Ms. Tawny R. Acker as its new Executive Director.
Ms. Acker has worked in LKLP Administration as the Program Development Director for 17 years.
Ms. Acker is excited about this opportunity to be at the helm of LKLP and leading the charge to positively impact thousands of people across the agency’s four-county service area, the Kentucky River Area Development District, and the state.
“This was a long process, but I know we made the right decision for the Agency and the community.” said Corbett Mullins, board chair of LKLP Community Action. “I welcome Ms. Acker in her new role, and I am looking forward to working with her as the Executive Director of LKLP.”
During Ms. Acker’s tenure at LKLP, she has brought in over a half-billion dollars in grants and established many new programs with her experience in strategic planning, compliance, education, and community engagement.
Previously, Ms. Acker served as an assistant professor and Director of Student Support Services at Hazard Community and Technical College. Ms. Acker is currently a board member of the Knott County Long Term Disaster Recovery Group and a member of the Hazard-Perry County Women’s Club.
Previously, she has served as the Chair of Hazard-Perry County Tourism and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and treasurer of the Appalachian Arts Alliance, as well as other community and civic groups.
“I am humbled, honored, and blessed to lead LKLP into a new era of growth and service to our communities,” said Ms. Acker, new Executive Director of LKLP Community Action. “LKLP has a wonderful, dedicated staff and Board of Directors, and I am looking forward to working with them to further our mission and impact.”
Ms. Acker is a Letcher County native and a Knott County resident.
Her master’s degree and doctoral work are from the University of Kentucky. Ms. Acker credits her father, the late Dr. Roscoe J. Acker, with shaping her desire to help others through a career of service.
Ms. Acker is the proud mother of daughter Dorthea Acker Estep and grandmother of seven-month-old grandson, Atlas Crue Estep.
LKLP is a private, non-profit agency charged with providing vital programs and services that assist low to middle income citizens achieve self-sufficiency and improve quality of life.
