Work is reportedly set to start soon on installing a water system near Roxana as part of a proposed federal prison project which has yet to be fully approved.
The Mountain Eagle reports the Letcher County Water and Sewer District has started asking for
contractor bids to build about 10 miles of water lines in the Roxana-Blackey-Mill Branch
area.
In addition to the prison, it will also add water for more than 130 homes currently not on a public water system. As for the full prison project, the paper reports the Environment Impact Assessment is done but is now in a 30-day comment period.
A decision by the Federal Bureau of Prisons is expected after that, around August 12.
