Mark Pope Era of UK Basketball Begins as Cats Demolish KY Wesleyan

The UK Wildcat mens basketball team got the season and the coach Mark Pope era off to a great start against Division II in state team the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers last night at Rupp Arena.

The Cats demolished KY Wesleyan 123-52.

The team put up some up some amazing team stats in the first of two exhibition games.

They made 21 three-pointers and shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, they had 32 assists to five turnovers, and 39 fastbreak points.

Jaxson Robinson lead Kentucky with 19 points on Otega Oweh put in 18 followed by Ansley Almonor with 15 points.

Koby Brea had 13 and Andrew Carr with 10.

Harlan County’s Trent Noah hit 4 three’s in 9 minutes of the 2nd half to finish with 12 points.

Lamont Butler had 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, and six steals while Amari Williams added 12 points, six assists, and five rebounds.

The basketball Cats will take on Minnesota State this Tuesday October 29th in another exhibition game before opening the regular season Monday November 4th against Wright State.

The UK Women’s Basketball team will open the season also on November 4th against USC Upstate at Memorial Coliseum.
