The final results have been released in the race for State Senator for the 29th District which covers Letcher, Knott, Floyd, Harlan and Bell Counties and Pineville Mayor Scott Madon has officially been announced as the winner.
Thousands of votes across all those counties had to be hand-counted in the write-in only race that saw 11 candidates compete.
Madon, a Republican, was backed by the state Republican Party and endorsed by the family of the State Senator Johnnie Turner who had been running for reelection for the seat when he passed away last month.
Madon had 6,825 votes.
Letcher County Attorney James Tyler Ward finished in third place with 2006 votes.
