1960’s Band From Pikeville Now Part of The Country Music Highway

Local 1960’s rockers Ritchie Weems and the Continental V are now immortalized on Eastern Kentucky’s Country Music Highway.

The Highway, which runs along US 23 from Jenkins to Ashland, honors singers, songwriters and musicians who have had a significant impact.

The Pikeville group was made up of Ritchie Weems, Skip Franklin, Ricard Goff, Mike Johnson, James Osborne, and Dennis Walters.

They had several records and even made it onto “American Bandstand.”

The Appalachian News Express reports there are four signs with the band’s name along the Country Music Highway.
