Company Wants to Build Solar Farm on Former Mine Lands in Pike County

The first steps have been approved for a proposed solar farm in Pike County.

Savion LLC, which is a subsidiary of Shell, wants to develop the 100-megawatt solar farm on
some former mine lands on a mountain in Meta.

The Appalachian News Express reports the project has gotten state approval to move forward but there are several other approvals and designs to be done until construction can start so it’s a couple years off.

Savion says they hope to begin building in 2027 and operating in 2028.
