City of Pikeville Receives Grant to Help With Traffic Safety

Pikeville has gotten a grant to help make some roads safer.

The $160,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program will go toward creating a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan which officials say will aim to cut down on major injuries and car accident deaths.

The City Engineer tells the Appalachian News Express from 2019 to 2023, Pikeville had 45 crashes that led to people being killed or seriously hurt.

He says the grant will allow them to look at the data to identify high-risk locations and prioritize plans for safety upgrades.

And they are holding a public meeting to hear what you have to say about it.

The meeting is Thursday at City Hall.
