Work Underway to Appoint New Letcher County District Judge

Work has started to find a new 47th Judicial District Judge for Letcher County following the death last September of Judge Kevin Mullins.

Mullins was gunned down in his chambers allegedly at the hands of former sheriff Mickey Stines.

The Mountain Eagle reports a committee has taken applications for the judgeship and those applicants are in the process of completing a questionnaire.

The committee, appointed by Governor Andy Beshear in December, will whittle the applicants down to three nominees and the governor must appoint a judge from that list within 60 days of getting the list.
