PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 16, 2025) –Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 12 crews continue to assess road conditions across the region as widespread flooding impacts travel. While water has receded in some areas, it remains at dangerous levels in others.
Crews have been able to clear debris and reopen certain roadways, but many routes remain impassable. The full extent of damage will not be known until water levels drop further.
Travel Advisory:
- Non-essential travel is strongly discouraged in flood-prone areas unless seeking emergency services or higher ground.
- Never drive through floodwaters -it only takes a few inches of moving water to sweep a vehicle away.
- Road conditions can change quickly, and more closures are possible as assessments continue.
Additionally, temperatures have steadily dropped throughout the afternoon, with the potential for snow and ice overnight. This could create hazardous conditions on already saturated roads.
Stay weather aware, use extreme caution if travel is necessary, and follow all road closure notices. KYTC District 12 will provide updates as conditions change.
For the latest road conditions, visit transportation.ky.gov or follow KYTC District 12 on social media.
