A church across the street from the Letcher County Courthouse continues to offer solace and community in the wake of the September 19 shooting death of District Judge Kevin Mullins of which former Lethcer County Sheriff Mickey Stines stands accused.
Officials with Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church started opening up at 8am each morning to offer donuts, coffee and friendship to workers from the Courthouse and the Sheriff’s Office.
And they tell WYMT they are serving lunch at 11:30 am each day as well.
They say the idea is to provide a safe, healing space away from the tension.
On Tuesday a Morgan County District Court judge determined there is enough evidence for
a first degree murder case against Stines to proceed to a grand jury but there is no word
yet on if that the grand jury will be convened in Letcher County or elsewhere.
