ARC Federal Funding for Local Projects and Governments Facing Significant Budget Cuts

The Appalachian Regional Commission could see a significant cut in federal funding.

WYMT reports the federal 2026 budget recently passed by Congress could cut the
ARC’s budgets by 93%, from $200 million to $14 million dollars.

More than 80 organizations have written a letter to Congress talking about what the Appalachian Regional Commission does including job creation, opioid recovery programs, and manufacturing projects.

Officials say local governments could be heavily impacted.

Over the past several years the ARC has awarded millions of dollars locally to support flood recovery, higher ground housing, water infrastructure upgrades and more.
