Arraignment Today For Sheriff Mickey Stines on Murder Charges

Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines is set to be arraigned today for first degree murder in the shooting death of District Judge Kevin Mullins last week in the judge’s chambers.

Today’s arraignment is being held by a Carter County Judge and Stines has been jailed in Leslie County.

Kentucky State Police and other investigators have released no details since the incident but the Mountain Eagle has cited video from within the judge’s chambers indicating Stines and Mullins – who had gone to lunch together earlier in the day – exchanged cell phones shortly before Stines allegedly opened fire with multiple shots and then turned himself in without incident when police arrived.
