The Letcher County Board of Education has voted to close Arlie Boggs Elementary School.
At their meeting last night, which followed a public meeting earlier this month to discuss the potential closure, the Board voted 3-1 to shutter the school due to declining enrollment which has challenged the district to support having enough certified teachers
as well as to keep the building in working order.
The closure is effective at the end of this school year.
The plan is for Arlie Boggs kids to go to Cowan Elementary, but many parents have balked at that, due to the long ride over Pine Mountain.
