Technology is going to help the City of Pikeville enforce downtown parking rules. WYMT reports the city has embarked on a one-year pilot program with a company called Automotus which will install cameras to monitor several city parking spaces. Officials say it will know, for example, if you’ve overstayed a 2-hour limit and will generate a ticket and mail it to you. City officials say it will free up police officers to do other things, but another goal is to encourage people who work downtown to park in the city’s free, off-street parking lots and keep the timed spaces available for business patrons.
