Commonwealth Attorney Reacts to Motion to Dismiss Indictment Against Mickey Stines

The Commonwealth’s Attorney in the murder case against former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines is balking at the defense motion to dismiss the indictment.

As we reported last month, Stines’ attorneys asked for a dismissal of his Murder of a Public
Official charge in the death of Letcher County Judge Kevin Mullins because they say the
grand jury was not given some information by the Commonwealth’s attorneys and there
was an intentional failure to record one of the grand jury sessions.

In a response to that motion, Commonwealth’s Attorney Jackie Steele argues there is no legal basis to throw out the case, saying the grand jury indictment is supported by sufficient evidence.

The judge in the case has not yet ruled on the motion to dismiss.
