There is a court hearing this week in the case of former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines who is charged with murder in the shooting death of Letcher District Judge Kevin Mullins at the courthouse in 2024.
The hearing Thursday is to hear several motions including a request from Stines’ attorney for him to be allowed bond. Stines has been held without bond since the moments following the shooting which happened in the judge’s chambers and was caught on courthouse video.
The judge will also hear a prosecution motion to move the trial outside of Letcher and its surrounding counties.
