Former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines has a court hearing today in Letcher County.
Stines is charged with murder in the shooting death of Letcher District Judge Kevin Mullins in the judge’s chambers at the courthouse in 2024.
Today’s hearing is to hear several motions including a request from Stines’ attorney for him to be allowed to have bond; he has been held without bond since the shooting.
The special judge in the case will also hear a prosecution motion to move the trial outside of Letcher County and any of the surrounding counties.
Stines is being held in the Leslie County Jail.
