Letcher County has a new Sheriff. On Tuesday, Letcher Judge/Executive Terry Adams appointed Deputy Sheriff Billy Jones to take over as Sheriff.
Jones has most recently been the school resource officer.
He took the oath of office about a half-hour before the preliminary hearing for former Sheriff Stines who officially retired on Monday, five days after Governor Andy Beshear asked him to resign.
