To commemorate the anniversary of the March 1976 Scotia Mine Disaster on Cumberland River at Ovenfork in Letcher County, the Harry M. Caudill Library in downtown Whitesburg will be hosting a special event on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 1:00pm.
Brian McKnight will lead a detailed discussion with five members of the Westmoreland Rescue Crew that were dropped down a 376 foot bore hole to explore and reach the 26 dead miners, because they couldn’t go through the main entrance.
Admission is free and there will be refreshments.
