Money to start designing the new Letcher County Airport is reportedly going to be
delayed due to the federal government shutdown.
Last month the Letcher County Airport Board signed an agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration for $2.4 million to design the airfield in Isom.
But as the Mountain Eagle reports the agreement was signed just as Congress came to impasse on a federal budget.
Officials say once the budget is resolved and the purse strings opened; the design money will be funded.
Once the design is done, then the county will pursue the money for the construction.
