Another Letcher County city has voted to allow alcohol sales.
Unofficial results from Tuesday’s election show 80% of Fleming-Neon voters who turned out said yes to the sale of alcohol in city limits.
WMYT reports many of those in favor said the revenue will help business in the city, which is still in recovery from the 2022 floods.
Others cited the tax revenue going to support the police department.
Those opposed cited religious reasons and concern for changing the character of the city.
Jenkins and Whitesburg allow alcohol sales although as a whole Letcher is still a dry county.
Meanwhile, Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines is working to get a ballot measure for the November
Election to allow alcohol sales throughout the county to help support his department
