A former Letcher County Jailer wants Kentucky State Police to do a criminal
investigation into allegations of sexual abuse within the Letcher County Jail and
Courthouse due to rampant rumors that started after the shooting death of Letcher
District Judge Kevin Mullins for which former Sheriff Mickey Stines has been accused.
Bert Slone tells the Mountain Eagle national interest in the case has spread misinformation about Courthouse personnel and he thinks an investigation could clear their names.
Mullins’ death happened while Stines was going through depositions for a lawsuit brought by former inmates who had been sexually assaulted by a Letcher deputy who was also working part-time at a company monitoring home incarcerations.
