Former Sheriff Stines Attorney’s File to Unseal Psych Evaluation at Hearing Next Week

There’s a hearing next week in the case of former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines
who is accused of murder in the September 2024 shooting death of Judge Kevin Mullins
at the Letcher County Courthouse.

Stines’ attorneys have filed a motion to unseal his psychological evaluation; they have planned a defense based on insanity at the time of the incident.

His attorneys have also filed a motion to dismiss the indictment against him, claiming irregularities with how the grand jury heard the case and they want him out on bond.

The hearing on that potential dismissal and the bond is set for Friday August 15 and his attorneys say they want to see the psych eval before that hearing.
