As local food pantries continue to collect donations to shore up supplies for those
whose SNAP benefits have not been funded, Governor Andy Beshear has declared a
state of emergency and directed moving $5 million from the state budget reserve trust
fund to Feeding Kentucky food banks.
On Friday two federal judges ordered that the federal government must release contingency money for SNAP that Congress withheld due to the government shutdown but the judges said they could not legally withhold.
But depending on the timing, some folks’ SNAP benefits may not load until Friday.
If you need assistance, you can register with the Letcher County Food Pantry.
