The Pike County Fiscal Court has named a temporary replacement for District Three Commissioner Orville Blackburn who resigned last month due to health concerns and whose term has three more years. WYMT reports Governor Andy Beshear has signed an executive order appointing Jim Abshire to the seat until the November election which will have a special election item on for the remainder of the term. The candidates will be chosen by the Pike County Democrat and Republican Executive Committees. Meanwhile Commissioner Abshire was sworn into office last night and will be publicly sworn in next Tuesday before the Pike County Fiscal Court meeting.
